Syrian Democratic Forces arrest Syrian regime sleeper cell in Hasakah countryside

HASAKAH, Syria — The Anti-Terror Unit (YAT) of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested four members of a sleeper cell belonging to the Syrian regime in the Hasakah countryside of North and East Syria on Thursday.

The suspects were arrested in possession of firearms, ammunition, and explosive materials.

In a related context, the SDF, supported by International Coalition helicopters, raided and arrested a gang that has been conducted robbery and kidnapping operations in the areas of Khasham, Jadid Akidat, Al-Azbah, and Al-Mu`azlah in the northern countryside of Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor).

The SDF and Coalition have continued to carry out qualitative counter-terrorism operations in and around Dayro Zcuro since the end of large-scale sweeping operations in the summer.

The region has seen an increase in attacks on SDF and Internal Security Forces personnel and targeted assassinations of civil and administrative figures in the region since its liberation from the Islamic State.

The SDF suspects that the Syrian regime and allied Iranian militias are behind at least some of the assassinations targeting local security personnel and tribal leaders cooperating with the SDF and its civil partners, the Syrian Democratic Council and the Democratic Autonomous Administration.
