Egyptian customs seize large drug shipment from Syria in port of Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, Egypt – Egyptian media have reported that a large quantity of hashish was seized in the Egyptian port of Alexandria. Egyptian authorities said the hashish drugs came from areas controlled by the Syrian regime.

Authorities were alarmed of a drug shipment hidden in three containers coming from Syria and destined for Egypt. Authorities said that the drug smuggling happened in the name of an (undisclosed) import and export company. The hashish was hidden inside a shipment of bay paper comprising about 1,050 bags with a total weight of 33 tons.

According to the General Administration of Customs at Port Said, the last large quantity of hashish was also seized from a commercial shipment coming from the port of Latakia in Syria.
