IRAQ: UPP presses ahead with project to increase economic prospects for youth of Nineveh Plains

NINEVEH PLAINS, Iraq — As part of a project called “Together for Peace”, Italian organization Un Ponte Per and the Northern Technical University in Nineveh Province, Iraq, have collaborated to offer courses in professional development to a group of young people from Nineveh Plains from various ethnic and religious backgrounds.

The organizers stated to IshtarTV that they are of great importance for employer and employees alike, especially after the damage done by the Islamic State to the regions infrastructure and its people.

The project aims to increase efficiency and productivity in the region’s economic sector, as well as training the unemployed to improve their skill-base.

Supervisors of the project said that courses include aluminum blacksmithing, maintenance of agricultural machinery, and accounting.

The Together for Peace Project is being implemented by Bridge to UPP) and funded by Malteser International. Initially launched in 2019, the project aims to strengthen the prospects of young people in Nineveh Plains to discourage them from emigrating.
