The 8th annual festival of Syriac elocution and poetry held in Baghdad
BAGHDAD — Under the patronage of Minister of Education Ali Hameed al-Dulaimi and supervision of Director General of Syriac Study Imad Salem Jajo, the Directorate held the 8th Annual Festival of Syriac Elocution and Poetry in Baghdad on Wednesday morning. The festival was attended by Adviser to the Iraqi Council of Representatives Imad Youkhana and Bishop Nemat al-Khoury Benjamin, as well as cadres of the Directorate in Baghdad.
A number of poets and writers from the General Union of Writers in Iraq were also in attendance.
The festival began with a speech from Jajo praising the Syriac language and its uniqueness, as well as its role in transferring science and knowledge. Several writers and participants delivered speeches expressing their hope in the younger generations to revive the Syriac language.
Several poems were recited, and pre-recorded recitations of poems and hymns were presented in the Syriac and Arabic languages.
The festival was concluded with Jajo distributing certificates of thanks and appreciation to the participants and thanking all who attended as well as the General Union of Writers in Iraq for hosting the festival.
