Israeli Foreign Ministry summons the Russian Ambassador over statements to Jerusalem Post

TEL AVIV — A day after Russian Ambassador to Israel Anatoly Viktorov made statements critical of Israel to the Jerusalem Post, he was summoned by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Two days ago, Viktorov criticized Israel and its role in the Middle East region and expressed Russia’s support for Iran and Hezbollah.

The Ministry published a statement by Head of the Strategic Political Affairs Department in the Ministry Alon Bar strongly condemning Viktorov’s statements which do not reflect the realities of the Middle East. Bar also stated that Viktorov’s statements had been discussed with Moscow.

Viktorov, in an attempt to justify himself, demonstrated that he intends on sending a letter to the Jerusalem Post explaining his stances, claiming some of his statements were inaccurately transmitted by this newspaper.
