Eutelsat will block Syrian state media channels beginning in 2021

PARIS — After Syrian government channels were blocked from Nile Sat and Arab Sat satellites in 2012 in accordance with the decision of the Committee of the Arab League, European satellite operator Eutelsat has decided to block all Syrian state media channels beginning in 2021.

Paris-based Eutelsat is Europe’s first satellite operator for television channels.

The blocking of Syrian state media channels and radio stations comes as the European Union seeks to increase pressure on the Syrian regime to find a comprehensive political solution to the near decade long civil war.
