Yezidis in North and East Syria mark Eda Rojiet Ezi, most important feast on Yezidi calendar
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Co-Chair of the Office of Religious Affairs in Gozarto (Jazira) Region of North and East Syria Jubair Sheikh Suleiman congratulated the Yezidi people on the occasion of Eda Rojiet Ezi, a three day fast in December all Yezidis are expected to observe. During Eda Rojiet Ezi, fasting occurs from dawn until sunset. Nights are spent feasting, celebrating, and praying. SuroyoTV spoke with Suleiman about the holiday.
The Yezidi fast for three days before the first Friday in December, according to the eastern calendar, said Suleiman. On the fourth day, the Friday, the fast is broken. The holiday is the most important and largest Yezidi feast, he said.
Suleiman wished that this year’s holiday would bring peace and security to all the peoples of the region.
