Syrian Women’s Council hosts lecture on Syriac history in Zalin in North and East Syria

ZALIN, Syria — The Syrian Women’s Council gave a lecture on the history of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people at its Zalin (Qamishli) in North and East Syria on Sunday.

The first section of the lecture was presented by Hanna Soumi, official of the Syriac Cultural Association in Zalin, focused on the Christian religion, the character and teachings of Christ, and the establishment of the Church, its denominations and rituals.

The second section of the lecture was presented by Ms. Georgette Barsoum, official of the Syriac Women’s Union in Zalin, focused on the history of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, including the most important kingdoms they founded, their prosperity in trade and industry, and the historical role of Syriac women. Barsoum also spoke about the persecution of Syriacs throughout history, highlighting the many massacres they have been subjected to which have caused widespread emigration.
