SUP Co-Chair in Zalin Nora Hanna: We call on human rights organizations to intervene to release detainees in Turkey and Syria

ZALIN, Syria — In an interview with SuroyoTV, Nora Hanna, Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) in Zalin (Qamishli) in North and East Syria, stated that the SUP vehemently opposes the endemic and cruel detention of political dissidents by the Turkish state and demanded more be done by the international community to free them.

“We contributed to the sit-in tent in solidarity with the Kurdish component to demand the release of all detainees in the Turkish prisons,” said Hanna, referring to the sit-in tents set up in Zalin and Hasakah by the Revolutionary Youth Movement, in cooperation with the Young Women’s Union, in support of detainees in Turkish prisons.

“The Turkish state is the enemy of humanity,” said Hanna. “It has been displacing our Syriac people since 1915 from Tur Abdin in Turkey and other areas after it carried out the Sayfo Genocide.”

Hanna added that Turkey continues its inhuman violations on all peoples of the region and demanding the release of detainees in the Turkish prisons, such as People’s Democratic Party MP of Hakkari Leyla Güven, and the end to the harassment and persecution of political opponents, such as Syriac Member of Turkish Parliament Tuma Çelik.

“Turkey continues its attacks and aggression against the regions of North and East Syria, amid international silence, but we still demand an international intervention to stop the Turkish violations,” she said.

Hanna also demanded human rights organizations intervene to release detainees in the Syrian prisons, including SUP official Saeed Malki.
