First official Israeli visit to Sudan following normalization agreement
KHARTOUM / TEL AVIV — Following the normalization of diplomatic relations between Israel and Sudan last year, Israeli Intelligence Minister Elie Cohen headed an official delegation visited to Khartoum on Monday.
Upon his return, Cohen issued a statement expressing confidence that his visit lays the foundations for many important cooperation that will improve security and stability in both Israel and Sudan, as well as the wider region.
On the meetings he conducted during the visit, Cohen explained that he had met with Sudanese leaders and that his delegation had discussed with them a range of diplomatic and security issues, in addition to the possibility of economic cooperation.
The statement said the two sides agreed that a Sudanese delegation would make a reciprocal visit to Israel.
Cohen’s visit is the first by an Israeli minister to Sudan.
