Director of Nineveh Health Directorate pleads with people to adhere to guidelines as Iraq enters second wave of coronavirus pandemic
NINEVEH PLAINS, Iraq — Dr. Falah Taie, Director of the Nineveh Health Directorate, revealed in an interview with Shafaq News that, “The end of the period of immunity that the majority of the province’s population acquired in the first wave of the Corona epidemic is coming.” Taie added that, “The second wave will be even more severe because of citizen’s lax attitudes towards preventive measures.”
“The decision to impose a curfew and prevent gatherings are the prerogative of the Central Crisis Cell and Iraqis are obliged to follow them,” but there is a need to educate people about the importance of adhering to the decisions to prevent a huge influx of coronavirus cases, Dr, Taie said.
The Iraqi Ministry of Health and Environment has stressed the need to take tougher measures to reduce the spread of the coronavirus pandemic before the situation in the country becomes unmanageable. Iraq has seen a sharp increase in the number of coronavirus cases in recent weeks.
