German warnings to Iran against obstructing inspections of its nuclear facilities
BERLIN / TEHRAN — A German diplomatic source said that the German Government is in constant contact with international partners, including the United States, in order to resolve the Iran nuclear issue peacefully and noted that Berlin considers it unacceptable for Tehran to prevent International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors from doing their work.
On Monday, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs threatened the country it would reduce cooperation with the IAEA if no breakthrough was made in its dispute with the United States over the nuclear — particularly the lifting of sanctions imposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump — by the end of the month.
It has since notified the IAEA that it plans to halt snap nuclear inspections outside of its declared sites as of 23 February.
