Syrian Democratic Forces General Commander Abdi: I would be happy to visit the U.S. and meet U.S. officials to discuss Syrian crisis
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In an interview with Voice of America FM, General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Mazloum Abdi expressed his readiness to visit the U.S. capital, Washington, D. C. saying, “I was invited, but we were in a state of war. There were many difficulties, so we could not go to Washington.”
“But when we can better communicate our cause to the U.S., then we can accept the invitation,” Abdi added, indicating that he would be happy to visit the U.S. and meet U.S. officials to discuss possible solutions to the crisis in Syria.
“We are in discussions with the new U.S. administration, and I hope that we will have a stronger relationship in the coming days, to start talks at a higher level,” Abdi said.
In response to Abdi’s statements, Director of Government Relations at the U.S. Institute for War Studies Nicholas A. Heras, via Twitter, responded that, “General Mazloum (#SDF chief) is a VIP visit in #Syria for many high-ranking Americans. Including 4-star generals, senior State Department officials and Congressfolk. Interesting to see if it’s really true that Mr. Mazloum will get his visa to visit Washington from the Biden team.”
