IRAQ: Four suspects in rocket attack on Erbil International Airport identified
ANKAWA, Iraq — The General Directorate for Combating Terrorism in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) issued a statement revealing the identity of four men suspected to be involved in the rocket attack on Erbil International Airport that left one military contractor dead and several others wounded.
The four suspects are accused of targeting U.S. military personnel stationed near the airport with 14 Iranian-made rockets in mid-February. Haider Abbas al-Bayati is believed to be the leader of the group.
The statement added that after sharing the results of the investigation with the security institutions of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the U.S.-led International Coalition, al-Bayati was arrested and confessed the attack in detail.
The Iraqi Counter-Terror Forces were also able to arrest another suspect involved in the attack. The two other suspects remain at large.
