International Coalition delegation tours Washokani Camp for people displaced by Turkish invasion of North and East Syria

HASAKAH, Syria — On Tuesday, a delegation from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) accompanied a delegation from the Civil Affairs Team of the U.S.-led International Coalition to Washokani Camp for people displaced from Rish Ayno (Ras al-Ayn) by the Turkish invasion of October 2019 to evaluate conditions in the camp and to provide assistance.

The Civil Affairs Team met with the camp administration and the head of security at the camp, Shamsa Samou, who revealed the obstacles they face within the camp in terms of the security and protection of the displaced people.

She also indicated that the camp is located near Tel Tamr in Hasakah Canton which lies along the line of contact with Turkish and Turkish-backed groups. The camp is only protected by a fence.

In their meeting, Samou urged the Coalition to provide the camp administration with the resources and tools necessary to secure the camp and ensure the safety of its inhabitants.

After the meeting, the Coalition delegation delivered assistance to the camp administration, which included 600 blankets.

One of the Coalition delegation members pointed out during statements to the media that they came to support Washokani Camp and stressed that it is important for the people of the region to know that the U.S. and the U.S.-led International Coalition will not forget the displaced people in Washokani and other camps.
