DAA representative in France Khaled Issa and Foreign Relations official Abeer Elia visit Archbishop Maurice Amsih and Khabur Region
GOZARTO REGION, KHABUR, Syria – A joint delegation including Abeer Elia, Vice-President of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) in North and East Syria, and the representative of the DAA in France Khaled Issa visited Archbishop Maurice Amsih of the Gozarto (Jazira) and Euphrates Diocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church with the aim of learning about the situation of the Syriac people (Arameans-Assyrians-Chaldeans) and the situation of the churches in North and East Syria.
Archbishop Maurice Amsih expressed his desire to convey the current difficult situation to the French Government and the international community so that they could actively support the people of the Region through local organizations. His Eminence also explained the need for the European Union to do more in supporting the people of the region.
The delegation then visited the Syriac-Assyrian villages of Khabur and the headquarters of the Syriac Military Council (Mawtbo Fulhoyo Suryoyo/MFS), where the delegation was received by the official MFS spokesman Aram Hanna and Matai Hanna. Abeer Elia and Khaled Issa were briefed on the state of the destroyed villages and churches by terrorist organization ISIS.
In a statement, DAA representative to France Khaled Issa explained that his current visit to North and East Syria is to assess the latest situation and convey needs and concerns to the French government. Khaled Issa stated that his visit to the Khabur is also to highlight the need for rebuilding the destroyed villages to bring life back to the villages of the Khabur. Khaled Issa praised the fight of the Syriac Military Council, a co-founder of the Syrian Democratic Forces, in liberating the villages of Khabur from ISIS and its resistance against the Turkish occupation forces and its Islamist factions, .
