Syriac Union Party Co-Chair Barsoum: 58 days of resistance by the people of Afrin were not enough to awaken the conscience of humanity

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — On the third anniversary of the invasion and occupation of the city of Cafrin (Afrin) by Turkey and the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA), Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) Sanharib Barsoum stated via his Twitter and Facebook page that, “Three years have passed since the occupation of Afrin by Turkey, the most heinous crimes committed there and the displacement of its people, and yet the world was silent.”

“Fifty-eight days of resistance from its people was not enough to awaken the conscience of humanity among the decision makers,” he continued.

It is time for the tragedy of Afrin and the tragedies of the Syrian people in many areas to end and for families to be able to return to their homes and villages in peace, said Barsoum.

“This is the first step toward healing the wounds of the Syrian people, not the endless meetings about an imaginary political solution championed by those who claim to be the guardians of the future of Syria,” said Barsoum. “Without listening to the demands of the Syrian people, there can only be more conflict.”
