GZERO Media’s Ian Bremmer: Biden will recognize 1915-1923 Genocide, first U.S. President to recognize the Genocide by the Ottoman Empire

WASHINGTON D.C. – GZERO Media reports that U.S. President intends to live up to his campaign promise to recognize the 1915-1923 Genocide on the Armenians, Syriacs, and Pontic-Greeks. According to GZERO Media founder Ian Bremmer White House sources have told him that the Biden administration will recognize the Armenian genocide – the first US president to recognize genocide by the Ottoman Empire during World War 1.

Earlier this week 38 Senators led by Robert Menendez (D-NJ) sent a bipartisan letter to President Biden urging him to follow Congress in recognition – Vice-President Kamala Harris was a co-sponsor of the 2019 Senate Resolution 150. In a response to questions about the letter, the White House spokesperson said that President Biden as a presidential candidate has commemorated the Genocide and said that we must never forget or remain silent about this horrific campaign, “and we will forever respect the perseverance of the Armenian people in the wake of such tragedy. This administration is committed to promoting respect for human rights and ensuring such atrocities are not repeated. A critical part of that is acknowledging history,” he added.

At first sight, not a direct and firm commitment. According to Ian Bremmer however, sources in the White House have now told him that “this was what President Biden pledged as a candidate, and that this is the policy going forward.”

A second White House source told Bremmer in a response to whether there would be any explicit announcement on April 24th, Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, that “Biden is a man of his word”. Syriacs have Sayfo Genocide Remembrance Day on June 15. The Pontic-Greeks annually on May 19.
