Head of Assyrian Democratic Organization Daoud Daoud sends Akitu congratulates to the Syriac–Assyrian people
ZALIN, Syria — On the occasion of the Syriac–Assyrian Babylonian New Year “Akitu”, head of the official of the Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO) in Syria Daoud Daoud congratulated the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in comments to SyriacPress on Wednesday.
“Akitu is an expression of our identity, heritage and civilization, and an embodiment of freedom, love and renewal of nature”, said Daoud, adding that the celebration dates back thousands of years. “April 1st was the first day of the year for our people, who were settling in Mesopotamia.”
Daoud called on all the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people to continue celebrating the holiday and to unite their ranks and voices, to move past divisions in institutions and parties, in order to ensure that their rights are ensured, especially in light of the political transition in Syria.
At the end of the conversation, Daoud expressed his deepest hope and confidence in securing the rights of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) and other peoples in Syria so that all can live in the country in an atmosphere of familiarity and harmony, without discrimination and religious and national animosity.
