Syrian Democratic Council wishes people of the region happy and safe Akitu

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) of North and East Syria issued a statement congratulating the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in Syria and around the world a happy Akitu, the Babylonian–Chaldean–Assyrian New Year.

In its statement, the SDC indicated that Akitu embodies the rich diversity of Syria and is one of the most prominent expressions of the historical and civilizational identity of the peoples of the region who, like the rest of the Syrian people and their components, have suffered during the past decades from the policies of exclusion, discrimination, and marginalization by the ruling authorities.

The SDC also wished that the coming holidays would be held in an atmosphere of security and stability.
