German newspaper Der Tagesspiegel: 90% of UN aid goes to Syrian regime

BERLIN / DARAMSUQ — German newspaper Der Tagesspiegel revealed that the Syrian regime is the biggest beneficiary of aid being delivered by the United Nations to Syrian.

According to the newspaper, almost 90% of the aid provided by the European Union and the United States of America and delivered by the U.N. goes to the Syrian government.

The newspaper also pointed out that Medico International has suspended its work in Syria, and other organizations have voiced similar concerns, because of the pressures from the Syrian regime to direct assistance to its supporters.

The newspaper also revealed questionable concessions made by the United Nations and relief agencies to Damascus in the western and southern parts of the country, stressing that the regime and its allies want to prevent aid from reaching areas beyond their control, especially Idlib.

Human Rights Watch has previously revealed that the government in Damascus has used humanitarian aid to finance its atrocities and punish dissidents.

It is worth mentioning that a large number of humanitarian workers and have reported these violations since 2014 and have not been taken into account, which increased the siege and increased the suffering of the Syrian people.
