SuroyoTV team interviews residents in North and East Syria about coronavirus curfew and measures

ZALIN, Syria — A team from SuroyoTV conducted a series of interviews in Zalin (Qamishli) in North and East Syria about the coronavirus and the measures taken by the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) to prevent its spread.

In the event that someone was confirmed to have the virus, it is necessary that the person be isolated at home and follow the instruction of the DAA Health Authority, said most of those interviewed. Most respondents also suggested that the elderly should remain at home as much as possible, with family and neighbors doing what they can to help avoid feelings of loneliness and isolation. The importance of wearing masks in public was also noted by many wearing masks, and contacting the Health Authority hotlines to request health advice.

The DAA Health Authority recently imposed a total curfew in the cities of Zalin, Hasakah, and Raqqa and a partial curfew across the rest of North and East Syria in response to sharply increasing case numbers.

The curfew is set to stay in place until 22 April. It excluded bakeries, pharmacies, and hospitals and allowed for food stores to remain open until 5:00 p.m.

The number of known coronavirus cases in North and East Syria has now reached 12,236 with an official death toll of 422.
