Administration in North and East Syria prepares food aid for residents most affected by coronavirus curfew
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Due to the difficult economic situation in the region, the Social Affairs and Labor Authority of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria announced an initiative to deliver baskets of food and hygiene products to assist families most affected by the recently imposed curfew to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
“This initiative is due to the health conditions in the region,” said Co-Chair of the Social Affairs and Labor Authority. “Thousands of food baskets are processed and will be distributed under the lists from the provinces and the number of most needy families in the region.”
“The aim of the program is to help the poor and needy inside stuck at home due to the curfew and has been coordinated with the Economic Authority and Nowruz Company to secure the required materials,” added Ismail.
On 12 April, the Health Authority of the DAA warned of an imminent humanitarian disaster due to sharply increasing cases of the coronavirus, saying that it is approaching the barrier of losing control of the situation and criticizing the World Health Organization’s lack of seriousness in providing support to the people of North and East Syria.
