Syriac security forces of North and East Syria mourn death of martyr Ashur

ZALIN, Syria — A funeral was held on Monday for the martyr Yacoub Shabo Yacoub “Ashur”, a member of the Sutoro, Syriac Security Forces. A procession carried the casket of martyr Ashur from his house to the Syriac Orthodox Mor Kyriakos Church in the Arboye neighborhood of Beth Zalin (Qamishli).

Father Habib Issa and Father Aho Ibrahim presided over the Mass.

In his sermon, Father Habib spoke about martyrdom and its importance in protecting and rebuilding the homeland. He praised the role of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) political and military forces for their struggle in this regard. Father Habib offered his deepest condolences to martyr Ashur’s family.

Following the Mass, the body of martyr Ashur was then transferred to the shrine of martyrs in the Al-Muazafen neighborhood to be buried. There, a speech was delivered by the Co-Chair of the Foundation of Families of Syriac–Assyrian Martyrs, Yacoub Daoud, in which he praised martyr Ashur’s actions, sacrifices, and dedication to the service and protection of the people of the region.

Sutoro spokesperson Akkad Hanna spoke about the importance of honoring martyrs, adding that martyr Ashur has joined the convoy of martyrs acting as a beacon for future generations. Hanna presented, on behalf of the Sutoro General Command, the organizations heartfelt condolences and pledged to follow in martyr Ashur’s footsteps in pursuit of the legitimate rights of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people.

A certificate of martyrdom was then handed over to martyr Ashur’s wife.

Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Gozarto (Jazira) and Euphrates Mor Maurice Amsih also offered his condolences on social media.
