In a phone call on Friday, Biden informed Erdogan that he would recognize the 1915 massacres of Armenians as Genocide on Saturday

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Bloomberg reported on Friday that U.S. President Joe Biden informed his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan that he intends to announce his recognition of the massacres of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915 as genocide.

It also reported that Biden would explicitly use the term genocide in a statement to be issued on the day of the Armenian Genocide, 24 April.

Biden will be the first U.S. President to describe the Armenian massacres of 1915 as genocide. It is unclear if his statement will include the massacres of Greeks, Syriacs (Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans), and Yezidis that happened concurrently with the Armenian massacres.
