NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — During a week-long visit to North and East Syria, a delegation from the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) and the Military Council of Shengal (Sinjar) in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) met with General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Mazloum Abdi.
The meeting was attended by head of the Executive Authority of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) Ilham Ahmed and Deputy Co-Chair of the Executive Council of the DAA Badran Jia Kurd.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the issue of humanitarian border crossings between the DAA regions and Shengal, as well as the issue of Yezidi children and women who are still being held captive by the Islamic State (ISIS).
Also discussed was the current situation in Nowruz camp, which includes displaced Yezidis from the Shengal Region after ISIS’s August 2014 invasion of the region.
The visiting delegation thanked Abdi and the SDF for the services that have been provided to the displaced Yezidis over the past years and for the role of the SDF fighters in protecting Yezidis in Shengal and North and East Syria.
