Co-Chair of Tel Tamr District Council Jwan Mulla Ayoub: Tel Tamr is becoming a massive camp for the displaced

TEL TAMR, Syria — In an interview with SuroyoTV, Co-Chair of Tel Tamr District Council Jwan Mulla Ayoub shed light on the suffering of the thousands of displaced people in the town and appealed to humanitarian organizations to intervene and improve the situation.

Although Tel Tamr is one of the smaller towns in North and East Syria, it sits at a strategically important crossroads making it a target for the invading Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA).

More than 25,000 people from 4,000 families have been displaced to Tel Tamr from the surrounding countryside, most of them Syriac–Assyrian. Despite the work of humanitarian organizations to provide aid and logistical assistance, the needs of the displaced are not being met, said Ayoub.

There are roughly 900 displaced families in Tel Tamr and another 3,000 in neighboring villages.

“The humanitarian organizations provide aid, but the quantity is not enough for the number of individuals in every family,” he added, indicating that the outbreak of the coronavirus has worsened the situation in the region.

Ayoub appealed to international humanitarian organizations to help the displaced people in Tel Tamr, which is steadily become a massive camp for the displaced.
