Ministry of Peshmerga in Kurdistan Region of Iraq calls for better coordination with Iraqi Army after repeated ISIS attacks
KIFRI, Iraq — The Islamic State (ISIS) attacked Peshmerga forces in Kifri District, south of Sulaymaniyah Governorate, on Wednesday resulting in the death of one Peshmerga fighter and the wounding of several others. Iraqi Army soldiers were injured around the same time in an ISIS attack on an security post in the Helwan area of Diyala Governorate.
These attacks prompted the Ministry of Peshmerga of the Kurdistan Regional Government to issue a statement warning that ISIS is adopting new methods in launching its attacks and remains a threat to the region.
The Ministry also called for a comprehensive agreement with Iraqi forces to fill the security vacuums in the disputed areas to prevent recurrent ISIS attacks.
