U.S.-led International Coalition: 27 operations against ISIS carried out in Iraq and Syria in May

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — For the first time, the U.S.-led International Coalition announced its clear stance on the trial of Islamic State (ISIS) suspects detained by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in North and East Syria. Coalition spokesperson Col. Wayne Marotto stated via Twitter that the Coalition supports the U.N. investigation team tasked with holding ISIS accountable for the crimes it committed.

Col. Marotto stressed that the Coalition’s unwavering support for international efforts to achieve justice and reconciliation for all those affected by the crimes of ISIS. Marotto’s tweet comes after the SDF, also via Twitter, called for the establishment of a court through which to provide a fair trial to ISIS suspects detained in SDF prisons.

In related news, the U.S.-led International Coalition against ISIS announced the outcome of military operations carried out by the SDF and Iraqi forces over the past two weeks.

Col. Marotto confirmed that their partners in Iraq and Syria carried out 27 operations against ISIS in May with the support of the Coalition.
