Unidentified rocket attack targets Ain al-Asad Air Base in Iraq
ANBAR, Iraq – On Monday, the Iraqi government’s Security Media Cell announced that a rocket had fallen in the vicinity of Ain al-Asad Air Base in Anbar Governorate, which hosts international forces. No causalities or damage were caused by the rocket.
Local media outlets reported that the rocket fell near civilian homes in the Al-Mo’asasa neighborhood of Al-Baghdadi near the air base.
The U.S.-led International Coalition to Combat the Islamic State (ISIS) in Iraq issued a statement about the incident. International Coalition Spokesperson Col. Wayne Marotto said that, “No casualties were reported, the damage is being assessed and the attack under investigation.”
Marotto also noted that every attack on the Government of Iraq, the Kurdistan Regional Government, or the International Coalition undermines the authority of Iraqi institutions, the rule of law, and Iraqi national sovereignty.
