Waste collection station established by Municipalities and Environmental Protection Committee in Zalin (Qamishli) Canton of North and East Syria officially opens
ZALIN, Syria — To alleviate the environment and health dangers of burning of waste in the cities and villages of Gozarto (Jazira) Region in North and East Syria, the Municipalities and Environmental Protection Committee in Zalin (Qamishli) Canton opened a waste collection and transport station on Wednesday.
The opening ceremony was interspersed with several speeches, including on by Committee member Arin Hadi in which she congratulated all the people of the region, stressing that the Committee always seeks to meet its promises to the people to solve the problems they suffer from and complete projects to serve them.
Hadi indicated that the Navkor Landfill in Zalin will help to solve the longstanding waste disposal issue in the area. She also indicated that waste collection and transportation stations were established in the cities most affected by the spread of illegal dumpsites. Hadi stated that there is a plan to develop a recycling center in the future.
Preparations for the waste collection project began about a year ago by the Environment Directorate of the Local Administration Authority in cooperation with the Municipalities and Environmental Protection Committee in Gozarto Region.
