Universal Syriac Union Party head Ibrahim Mrad discusses need for increased support for Syriacs to ensure their continued existence in Syria and Lebanon

ZAHLE, Lebanon — Head of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) in Lebanon Ibrahim Mrad received Syriac expatriate businessman and Executive Director of the Elias Hanna Heritage and Charitable Foundation Elias Hanna at USUP headquarters in Zahle, Lebanon. Hanna was accompanied by head of the A Demand for Action Charitable Foundation (ADFA) Gibran Galle.

During the meeting, Hanna spoke about the most prominent activities and services provided by his foundation, which was keen to strengthen the Syriac language and support Syriacs (Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans) in Syria. They also discussed the difficult economic situation in Syria and Lebanon and its effects on the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in both counties.

Mrad, in turn, stressed that the aid provided by the international community so far is insufficient and only contributes to alleviating small burdens. He stressed the need for increased international support to ensure the continued presence of the Syriac people in their native homeland.

He also stressed the need for the continuation of all relief and humanitarian institutions to do everything in their power to support the people of Syria and Lebanon amid dire circumstances.
