IRAQ: Bethnahrain Patriotic Union receives delegations from international non-governmental organizations
ANKAWA / ERBIL, Iraq –The Bethnahrain Patriotic Union (Huyodo d-Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA) on Thursday received representatives of the human rights group International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs and UN-registered Integrative Canadian Group Organization at its headquarters in Ankawa, Erbil. The visiting delegations included Muwaffaq al-Sanati, Juan Garcia, Sant al-Sanati and Director of the Canadian Integrative Group Organization Ghassan Fouad Saka.
They were received by HBA President Yusuf Yacoub Matti and HBA Executive Committee member Basem Elias Razouki. Matti welcomed the delegations after which the sides extensively discussed the rights of the Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people, in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), agreeing on joint action, inside and outside Iraq.
HBA President Matti reflected on the conclusions of the 2017 Brussels conference in the European Parliament and the activities of his party organization inside and outside Iraq, including the ongoing social and political struggle for the rights of his people in Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia) and Iraq. The representatives of the visiting non-governmental organizations in turn explained the work of their organizations dedicated to promoting, protecting and defending Indigenous Peoples’ rights, and the Syriac people in particular. They emphasized joint work and goals.
Matti also thanked the former Syriac Member of Iraqi Parliament and a candidate for the party in the upcoming October elections Joseph Sliwa for the logistical coordination in bringing organizations and HBA together.
