LEBANON: Universal Syriac Union Party meets Armenian Ramgavar Party in Zahle
ZAHLE, Lebanon – With the aim to strengthen party relations and coordination in the field of politics, the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) Zahle branch met with members of the executive body of the Armenian Ramgavar party (Armenian Democratic Liberal Party).
The USUP delegation was headed by the party’s Secretary-General lawyer Michel Mallo. They were received by Ramgavar executive member Koko Makrian and members of the party’s Zahle branch.
The parties discussed Lebanese affairs in general, the situation in Zahle in particular, and the historical ties between the Syriac and Armenian peoples, their common genocides, history, tragedies, and struggles.
Ways to develop and strengthen political cooperation between the two parties in the city of Zahle were drawn up in an understanding as a step-up to form an alliance between the Syriac and Armenian parties. Both parties reject Iranian and Hezbollah influence and mingling in Lebanese affairs, and aim to enable allied parties to nominate representatives to participate in the upcoming Lebanese parliamentary elections.
The two parties have close ties throughout all their branches in Lebanese cities. The Ramgavar party participates in June 15 memorials of the Sayfo Genocide of 1915, and the parties’ presidents laid wreaths at the Memorials for the Syriac and Armenian Genocide in Beirut.
