European Syriac Union elects new Co-Chairs in its 7ths conference in Brussels

BRUSSELS — On Sunday afternoon, the 7th Conference of the European Syriac Union (ESU) was held in Brussels in the presence of delegations of political parties from across the European Union. Participants from around the world joined the conference via video.

The conference began with a minute of silence for the souls of martyrs and the reading of a report on the party’s work in the last three years in the cultural, diplomatic, social, and humanitarian fields.

After the report was accepted, elections were held to appoint new Co-Chairs. Fehmi Vergili and Alicia Isik won the majority of votes and were confirmed as the new Co-Chairs.

In their acceptance speeches, the new Co-Chairs thanked the officials of the ESU and the conference’s participants. They both affirmed that they will bear the responsibility entrusted to them with honesty and sincerity in service to the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people.

Vergili and Isik also drew attention to the role and importance of the youth in the ESU and the need to increase youth activity.
