Gozarto Region and Euphrates Region of North and East Syria to hold elections before end of the year

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — The Follow-up Committee of the National Conference on Elections of Gozarto (Jazira) and Euphrates regions of North and East Syria was held on Thursday in Hasakah.

Member of the Committee Thabet al-Jawhar stated that preparations were underway to form a High Commission of Election Law in anticipation of general elections in the areas of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) before the end of this year.

Al-Jawhar indicated that a committee consisting of 150 members, including representatives of all the DAA institutions and civil society, will reformulate the social contract, which acts as a constitution for the people of North and East Syria.

The Committee, formed by the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), approved in November 2020 holding the elections in North and East Syria within a period not exceeding a year, in addition to restructuring the administrative system to reduce bureaucracy.
