Women’s Authority of North and East Syria records 657 violations of women’s rights so far this year
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In a public statement, the Women’s Authority of the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria announced that 657 violations of women’s rights and 666 cases of divorce have been recorded in the region so far this year.
The Women’s Authority explained that these violations included cases of murder, beating, abuse, death threats, harassment, marriage of minors, polygamy, defamation, suicide, prostitution, and rape. They attributed the increase of women’s rights violations to the economic crisis and ongoing war in the region.
Regarding two recent “honor killings” of two girls in Hasakah, the Authority indicated that the perpetrators will be punished according to the law.
