Administration of North and East Syria calls out U.N. double-standard over humanitarian aid delivery
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — The Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria issued a statement rejecting the U.N. Security Council’s extension of Resolution 2585 concerning the delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria through the occupied Bab al-Hawa crossing in Turkey for a period of six months.
The DAA stated that the decision does not take into account the five million people in living in North and East Syria, the humanitarian situation across all of Syria, and will only deepen the human tragedy caused by the economic and humanitarian blockade imposed on North and East Syria by Turkey and the Syrian regime.
The statement noted the worsening situation in the camps in DAA areas which house hundreds of thousands of people, both Syrian and foreign.
“We are not against delivering humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people from any crossing, but we are against double standards and the great threat to the humanitarian situation, especially in the areas that defeated ISIS,” the statement said.
The statement concluded by requesting a review of the resolution and emphasized the critical importance of reopening the Yarubiyah Border Crossing between North and East Syria and Iraq.
