U.S. officially accuses Iran of involvement in targeting its bases in Syria and Iraq
WASHINGTON, D.C. — After weeks of U.S. silence over repeated attacks on U.S. bases and personnel in Syria and Iraq, Pentagon press secretary John F. Kirby stated on Tuesday that the Washington was deeply concerned that Iranian militias were targeting U.S. forces in Syria and Iraq.
The statement is the first public indictment by a U.S. official of Iran regarding the repeated attacks on U.S. positions and personnel in the region.
Kirby also stressed the need for Iran to stop supporting these militias, noting that the Pentagon takes these attacks seriously.
Commenting on reports that the U.S. military base at the Omar oil field in Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor) was attacked for a second time, Kirby said the news was completely untrue.
