Belgium recognizes ISIS crimes against Yezidis as genocide
BRUSSELS — Following the recognition of the Islamic State’s (ISIS) genocide of the Yezidi people by the Dutch Parliament, 139 out of 150 MPs in the Belgian Parliament voted to recognize the same crimes as genocide.
The Belgian Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee submitted the draft bill to the Parliament, which passed on Thursday.
As a result of the decision, the Belgian government must support the Federal Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) to contribute to the return of the people of Shengal (Sinjar) to their houses, as well as provide security and stability in the region.
