ZAHLE, Lebanon — Despite the statements of several Western and Arab officials expressing their disappointment with the failure of the Lebanese politicians to form the government, few comments have been made by Lebanese parties, with the exception of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP), following the resignation of Prime Minister-designate Saad al-Hariri.
“We should not surrender but continue to demand until the desired results are achieved,” USUP President Ibrahim Mrad stated via Facebook.
Commenting on the failure of Hariri and President Michel Aoun to reach an agreement, Mrad stated that this method will not work and there is no solution except federalism or confederation in Lebanon.
“We always confirm that Lebanon, the Lebanese presidential palace in Baabda, and all institutions are controlled by the Iranian occupation,” Mrad said, indicating that the Lebanese people have become captives of Iranian occupation through the Shia Amal Movement and Hezbollah.
“Resisting the Iranian occupation is a national and moral right and duty,” Mrad concluded.
