On ninth anniversary of autonomy, activists and officials call for recognition of Democratic Autonomous Administration
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — On the occasion of the ninth anniversary of the establishment of autonomous governance in North and East Syria, the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria issued a statement calling on all parties in Syria to work towards a free and independent Syria.
The DAA renewed its commitment to cooperate and work with any Syrian national party keen to achieve justice, democracy, and stability, and stressed the need for a solution in Syria in accordance with U.N. resolutions.
The statement added that it would continue to work for liberation until all occupied areas — including Cafrin (Afrin), Tel Abyad, and Rish Ayno (Ras al-Ayn) to ensure the return of forcibly displaced persons to their homes with dignity.
To mark the anniversary, several celebrations and marches were held across North and East Syria.
Activists also launched a social media campaign calling for international recognition of the DAA. The General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Mazloum Abdi published the hashtag on his Twitter account and called on the public to join the campaign to ensure the future of North and East Syria.
A number of DAA personalities and officials participated in the campaign, including Co-Chair of the Executive Council of the Gozarto (Jazirah) Region Nazira Goreya and Deputy Co-Chair of the Executive Council of North and East Syria Joseph Lahdo.
Three hours after its launch, the hashtag topped Twitter in Turkey and Iraq and ranked second in Germany and Switzerland, reaching the eighth globally.
