Delegation from North and East Syria meets with French President Macron

PARIS / NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — A joint delegation from the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria and the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris at his invitation.

During the meeting, the DAA’s experience, its future, as well as its economic and security challenges were discussed.

The visiting delegation included Co-Chair of the SDC Executive Board Elham Ahmed, Co-Chair of the DAA Executive Council of North and East Syria Berivan Khaled, and Co-Chair of the Executive Council of the Civil Administration in Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor) Ghassan al-Youssef.

The meeting dealt with how to ensure a peaceful, democratic, and just solution to the Syrian crisis in accordance with U.N. resolutions to guarantee the rights and equality of all components of the country. The delegation discussed the administrative situation in North and East Syria and the importance of this democratic experiment, as well as its future aspirations within a unified democratic Syria.

The general economic situation in North and East Syria and the lack of resources due to the defacto embargo of Turkey and the Syrian regime, as well as the closure of border crossings to U.N. humanitarian aid, were also highlighted.
