Syriac Orthodox churches across Syria hold Mass to remember St. Elias

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — On Monday, St. Elias’ Day, Syriac Orthodox Bishop of the Diocese of Gozarto (Jazira) and Euphrates Mor Maurice Amsih, celebrated the divine sacrifice in St. Elias’ Church in Amuda in North and East Syria.

The Bishop was assisted by Father Habib Issa — priest of the Monastery of Mor Aho, Father Elias Qass Elias — priest of the Church of Our Lady Mary in Naserah neighborhood, and fathers Abdul Masih Youssef — priest of the Church of Our Lady Mary in Qamishli, Father Michael Jacob — priest of the Church of Mor Asia in Derbasiya, Father Saliba Abdullah — priest of the Church of Our Lady of Mary in Zalin (Qamishli), Father Aho Ibrahim — priest of Mor Jacob’s Cathedral in Zalin, members of the Council of Syriac Orthodox in Zalin, a large gathering of believers, and the 4th Syriac Orthodox Scout Regiment of Zalin.

In his sermon, Bishop Amsih spoke about the life of St. Elias and blessed this anniversary with God’s means to follow in the footsteps of the Saint in his sacrifices.
