2020 Olympics: Syriac-Assyrian Yakiv Khammo representing Ukraine competes in men’s Judo

TOKYO – The Syriac-Assyrian judoka Yakiv Mykhailovych Khammo from Ukraine will be competing this week in his first match in the men’s Judo category over 100 kg at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympics. His first match is Friday the 30th at the legendary Nippon Budokan Judo venue.

Khammo lives in Kiev but was born in Donetsk, Ukraine, on June 11, 1994. He started Judo at the age of 8.

Yakiv “Yasha” Khammo has a long list of participations in international tournaments.

In the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Khammo came in ninth in his class.

In the 2020 European Championships in Prague he came in ninth.

At the World Masters in Doha, Qatar, he won third place (YouTube video: International Judo Federation).
