Delegation from Administration of North and East Syria visits Shengal (Sinjar) to commemorate 7th anniversary of Yezidi Genocide

SHENGAL, Iraq — To commemorate the 7th anniversary of the Yezidi Genocide committed by the Islamic state (ISIS) in Iraq in 2014, a delegation from the Democratic Autonomous Administration (DAA) of North and East Syria visited Shengal (Sinjar).

The visiting delegation included Co-Chairs of the DAA Executive Council of Gozarto (Jazira) Region Nazira Goreya and Talaat Younes, as well as the DAA Deputy Co-Chair Hamdan al-Abed, and representatives of Yezidi House.

The visiting delegation attended a commemorative event that was held in Shengal during which a speech was delivered in the three languages — Syriac, Kurdish, and Arabic — by Goreya, Younes, and al-Abed.

After the event, the visiting delegation headed to the headquarters of the Autonomous Administration of Shengal and met with officials there. They discussed several matters, most notably the importance of coordination and cooperation between the Administration of Shengal and North and East Syria.

Ways to achieve cooperation and continuous communication between the two administrations were also touched on.

The delegation also visited the City Council of Shengal.
