Co-Chair of Syriac Union Party in Syria Nazira Goreya renews demands for regime to reveal fate of Said Malke
ZALIN (QAMISHLI), Syria – On the 8th anniversary of the arrest of leader Said Malke, Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party in Syria Nazira Goreya told SyriacPress that on this day 8 years ago, the leader of the Syriac Union Party Said Malke was arrested by security services of the Syrian regime. And to this day, his fate has not been revealed by the Syrian authorities. His whereabouts and situation remain unclear. This is also the case for the tens of thousands of prisoners of freedom and expression in the prisons of the Syrian regime.
“All these illegal practices and arrests are in violation of international human rights law. They go against international efforts related to the Syrian conflict and UN Security Council resolutions,” Nazira Goreya said.
“On this 8th anniversary of our leader’s arrest, we reaffirm and renew our demands for the Syrian regime to reveal the fate of leader Said Malke, to comply with UN resolutions, and to support international efforts to establish peace in Syria and bring about democratic change. This also includes the file of the illegal detainees. We consider this very important and essential steps to make Syria a state of human rights and freedoms.”
“On this anniversary, we renew our commitment to our leader Said Malke, to fight for his freedom, and to follow his path of freedom. This is the path of our righteous martyrs to achieve our national goals,” the Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party concluded her statement.
Nazira Goreya made her statement after a protest organized by the Syriac Progressive Youth Union of the Bethnahrin National Council. The protest went through the streets of Zalin to the UN office in the city where speeches were held and a statement was delivered to UN representatives.
