Holy Synod of the Assyrian Church of the East sets date for election of new Patriarch
ANKAWA, Iraq — The Holy Synod of the Assyrian Church of the East has revealed the date of the Synod in which Patriarch Mor Gewargis III Sliwa will step down for health reasons and a new Patriarch will be elected.
The Synod is scheduled to be held on 5 September at the Headquarters of the Patriarchate in Ankawa, Iraq.
During the Synod, Patriarch Mor Gewargis III Sliwa will officially step down for health reasons. Whoever is elected the new Patriarch is scheduled to be inaugurated on the night of the Holy Cross, 13 September, at Mor Youhanna Cathedral in Ankawa.
