Turkey assassinates Yezidi politician and YBŞ Commander Saaed Hassan in Shengal with drone strike
SHENGAL, Iraq — At noon on Monday, Turkey assassinated Yezidi politician and commander of the Shengal Resistance Units (Yekîneyên Berxwedana Şengalê, YBŞ) Saaed Hassan as he drove through the streets of his hometown Shengal (Sinjar) in Iraq.
Hassan was formerly a member of the Ezidi Democratic Movement and, following the integration of the YBŞ into the Popular Mobilization Forces of the Iraqi Armed Forces, was a commander of the 80th PMU Brigade in Shengal.
Hassan, a native of Shengal, helped organize the Yezidi resistance against the Islamic State since its first invaded the region in 2014.
One other passenger in the vehicle was killed and three others wounded.
