NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — The Syriac Progressive Youth Union released a statement addressing the emigration of young people from North and East Syria. The statement touched on the difficulties facing youth in Syria in general and in North and East Syria in particular.
Despite the difficulties, however, young people in North and East Syria have been able to empower themselves and participate more is politics and public life.
The statement also referred to necessary work needed to reduce youth emigration, including ensuring adequate and meaningful employment and combating hate speech and drug trafficking.
The Union also stressed the need to implement Resolution 2250 on “Youth, Peace, and Security”, which aims to promote the participation of young men and women in peace and safety and urged U.N. Member States to consider ways to increase the representation of youth in decision-making processes at all levels.
